On Friday, May 9, the youth of Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Ruwi, Muscat (Oman), gathered to celebrate the Jubilee of Vocations on the occasion of the 62nd World Day of Prayer for Vocations.
During the first part of the morning, the young people experienced the meaning of the word “vocation” through the testimonies of several friars and a married couple.
Afterward, Fr. Darick D’Souza led a workshop on the theme of discernment—how to understand God’s will and His call.
Fr. Darick emphasized that vocation is not primarily about “doing something,” but rather, as he said, “the first and most important call from God is a call to be — the universal call to holiness.”
He gave several examples of well-known figures who even changed their lives to follow the unmistakable voice of Jesus calling them to follow Him.
What we need to learn, he said, is to “see ourselves through God’s eyes”—only then will we truly be ourselves and bear fruit.
Quoting Saint Catherine of Siena: “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”
In the afternoon, the youth participated in the parish Mass. Before the celebration, 16 young people from different communities entered the church in procession, dressed as the founders of various religious orders.
