On 22 April 2022, Bishop Paul Hinder celebrated his eightieth birthday. To mark the occasion, a special thanksgiving outdoor mass was held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Abu Dhabi at 7.00 pm.
Following the celebration, Msgr. Kryspin Dubiel, the Charge D’Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in the UAE read out a message from Pope Francis addressed to Bishop Paul congratulating him for his 80th Birthday and assuring his prayers and blessings.

To the Most Reverend Paul Hinder
Vicar Apostolic of Southern Arabia
On the happy occasion of your Eightieth Birthday, I send warm good wishes and the assurance of my closeness in prayer. With gratitude for your devoted efforts to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and for your years of episcopal ministry to the faithful of the Arabian Peninsula, I cordially impart my Apostolic Blessing as a pledge of joy and peace in the Lord.

Among the concelebrants of the solemn Eucharistic celebration were Fr. Peter P. M., Custos of the Capuchin General Custody of Arabia, Fr. Antony Lopez, Chancellor of the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia, Fr. Troadio de los Santos, Vicar General, Fr. Valerian Fernandes, Chancellor, other curial officials and several priests from all over the UAE who had travelled to Abu Dhabi to participate in the special mass and celebration in honour of the Bishop.
A cultural programme was organized by the parish of St. Joseph’s which expressed the joy of the parish community in being able to celebrate this milestone together with the Bishop.

Another key highlight of the evening was the release of a book containing the Bishop’s Pastoral Letters and important speeches. The book, titled “And I came to Arabia” was compiled by an editorial team led by Fr. Darick D’Souza, the Secretary to the Bishop. The book is an excellent synthesis of the teachings and reflections of the Bishop spanning his pastoral ministry over the last eighteen years and will shortly be made available for the faithful in the respective parishes.
