Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent, titular of Domnach Sechnaill as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait and Qatar on 7 January 2021.
Born on 21 October 1958 in Ireland, Eugene Martin Nugent was ordained to the priesthood on 9 July 1983. Fr. Nugent was consecrated a bishop in Rome on 18 March 2010.
For the past five years, Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent had been serving as the Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti. Prior to his term in Haiti, he served as the Nuncio to Madagascar, Seychelles, Mauritius and Comores during the period 2010 - 2015.
Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent replaces Archbishop Francisco Montecillo Padilla who served the region for the past four years and currently serving as the Apostolic Nuncio to Guatemala since 17 April 2020.
