Nurses Ministry
First of all, I express my great joy in being with you today, dear Nurses who are living the experience of the Nurse Ministry. Seeing you all together around the altar of the Lord fills us with joy and gratitude for your association. I thank the Lord for your spiritual gifts; you are doing good to so many people.
You are at a very important moment in your associative journey. From a small group only in the United Arab Emirates, you are now expanding not only throughout the Gulf and the Middle East but also throughout the world. Therefore, it is necessary to proceed with formal recognition by the Church, so that your charism can spread throughout the world. The process is on the way.
Listening to the word of God that has been proclaimed we feel the strong call to wisdom. To live God's will fully we must have God's wisdom in our hearts. The first reading tells us about the gift of wisdom that we need to live a good life in accordance with the Lord's commandments. Having the wisdom of the Lord within us means learning to look at things not from our point of view but from God's point of the Creator.
We are called to enter relationships with creatures by thinking of the creator, learning to live the behavior that God has with us, which is pure love.
The gospel then speaks to us about the foolish virgins and the wise virgins, that is, those who have the wisdom of the Lord. The foolish virgins went to the wedding of the Lord without the reserve of oil for their lamps, they went to meet the Lord absentmindedly, almost without a real decision to follow the Lord.
So much so that the Groom's delay sends them deeply into crisis, they go to look for the oil they don't have and so they are present when the Groom arrives.
The wise virgins, on the other hand, those who have the wisdom of God, have consciously decided to follow the Lord, they have with them everything they need to be faithful even in the face of unexpected events. Let us also learn to be wise virgins; let us take with us the oil of wisdom and renew our commitment to decide for the Lord. We want not only to go to the Lord but also to remain with him forever.
Dear nurses who live your work in the light of the encounter with Jesus Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit: be wise and prudent nurses, have in your heart the wisdom of God that enables you to look at reality in a new way every day, taking care of those who suffer in Spirit and Body.
Your job, being a nurse, leads you to be close to people in a particular way in particular moments of their life, when they find themselves facing an illness and are faced with the great enigma of pain.
You, enlightened by the wisdom of God, are called to be at their side not only with your nursing expertise but also with the wisdom of God, so that you know how to console souls, know how to help those in need.
Above all, the Wisdom of God helps you to put prayer at the center of your life, the prayer of intercession so that God may manifest his power.
We know that the power of God was fully manifested in the paschal mystery, in the death and resurrection of Jesus and that the life of the human being is destined for eternal life with Christ. Aware of this, you are called to bring Christian hope to the world of healthcare through the care of the sick and your precious closeness to all people who find themselves in need.
Dear brothers and sisters, be a sign of God's closeness to everyone, be a sign of the Father's compassion and mercy. Be docile instruments in the hands of the Holy Spirit. Be imitators of Christ who bent over the wounds of man and woman.
May the Lord bless you and accompany you. May the mother of God, our Lord of Arabia, protect you and help you to always be docile to the powerful action of the Holy Spirit.
She is the mother of Wisdom. May her intercession support you on your journey and in your precious mission to bring the joy of the gospel to everyone, especially those who suffer in body and spirit.
