The theme of the XXXI World Youth Day 2016 in Krakow is "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy." (Matthew 5:7). The theme song of WYD 2016 "
Blessed are the merciful" attempts to capture the essence of the unfathomable mercy of God. Written by Polish composer Jakub Blycharz, the hymn is full of rich Biblical references and reassurances of the mercy of God who helps, protects and redeems us from every situation.
MasterPlan, a Catholic Band based out of Dubai, United Arab Emirates has released an English version of the theme song. The highly talented group of 11 professionals was featured on the world stage during the Youth Festival in Rio de Janiero as part of World Youth Day 2013. Since its formation in 2009, the band has performed on a number of national and international events while remainig faithful to its mission of serving the Lord and reaching out to youth through contemperorary music.
The band members Bibin, Steo and Nigel (male vocalists), Mini and Bhavna (female vocalists), Diago and Sherwell (guitar), Edwin (bass), George and Sony (synthesizers) and Neil (drums) hold regular day jobs and have growing families. Amidst their busy lives and daily commitments, these committed professionals make time to nurture and increase the talents that God has given them and to serve God through the gift of music. In their own words, "we felt called to be set apart to serve God and His church making His gift to us a gift in return to Him."
The versions composed by the band are featured on the WYD 2016
website. The Vicariate congratulates the band on the release of an English version of the official hymn of the World Youth Day 2016 and wishes them every success in their mission.
