Abu Dhabi.
Father Maroun was born on 5 October 1934 in Ghosta, in the mountain region of Jounieh, Lebanon, not very far from the national Marian Shrine of Harissa. He was the youngest of six children (five boys and a girl) and at baptism, was given the name Jean.
In 1946, he entered the Capuchin Minor Seminary at St François, Beirut. He went to France in order to continue his secondary school in Angers and Lyon. He entered the novitiate in Saint-Etienne (Capuchin province of Lyon, France), and he chose the name of Maroun.
On 04 October 1955, he made his first profession. He studied philosophy for three years in Crest (province of Lyon) and theology in Grenoble (province of Savoy) and at the Jesuit University of Beirut. On 08 October 1958, he made his perpetual profession and on 29 June 1961, he was ordained to the priesthood.
Fr. Maroun’s apostolate bore fruit as he worked for many years in schools, in parishes, in preaching and in spiritual direction. In the Order, he served as novice master, councilor and vice-provincial.
He served the Arabic and French communities of St. Mary’s Dubai from 23 September 2001 till his departure in 2004. From 8 October 2011, he served the Arabic and French communities in Bahrain. He left Bahrain after five years of service in 2016.
Fr. Maroun passed away on 01 April 2021 in Lebanon at the age of 87. Fr. Maroun is buried at Baabdath at the cemetery close to the Capuchin friary of St Anthony of Padua.
