The World Marriage Day honours Husband and Wife as head of the family, the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life.
The idea of celebrating marriage began in Baton Rouge, USA, in 1981, when couples encouraged the mayor, governor and the bishop to proclaim St. Valentine’s day as
‘We believe in Marriage Day’. In 1983, the name was changed to World Marriage Day, designated to be celebrated each year, on the 2
nd Sunday in February. In 1993, His Holiness Late John Paul II imparted his Apostolic Blessings on World Marriage Day, and thereafter, the celebrations continued to grow and spread to more countries every year.
The celebration of World Marriage Day being one of the highlights on the Family Ministry calendar, the various parish FM teams pulled out all stops to ensure that World Marriage Day 2020 was a memorable occasion for all participating couples. The special liturgy followed by the celebrations in the parish compound thereafter made this a truly blessed evening for all.
The regular monthly activities such as marriage preparation course, baptism seminar, wedding anniversary masses etc. continued as usual.
Marriage Encounter (ME) The ME teams were kept busy recruiting couples to join the upcoming ME weekend in March. The teams also worked closely with the parish Family Ministry teams for the planning and preparation for World Marriage Day.
