Peace and goodness!
Here we are entering the third week of Advent. This Sunday's Gospel expresses well the transition between the Old and New Testaments; John the Baptist introduces Jesus to us. Jesus is the one who is to come. He is the redeemer, the savior.
Let us continue the time of preparation to welcome Jesus: the son of God becomes the son of man so that the children of man become children of God.
The prophet Isaiah speaks to us of the Messiah as anointed man by the Holy Spirit who comes to free us. Jesus does not come to punish or blame us but to free us from evil. This is why Advent is a time of preparation for the joy of being set free. Jesus comes to bring us the freedom of the children of God. Therefore, we are called to move every day from slavery to freedom. We must move from being old creatures to new creatures.
What is the characteristic of free people? The capacity to love, to desire, and to do good. Free people know they are loved and enjoy giving their love to others.
For this reason, this week I propose to you, in addition to what I have suggested in past weeks (prayer, reading the Gospel, reconciliation), to prepare for Christmas with a good deed, a gesture of generosity and love towards someone in difficulty. Remember that God loves those who give joyfully. By making a gesture of generosity and love, we thus express the desire to welcome Jesus who comes.
Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!
