Bishop Paul Hinder, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia, has urged all the faithful of the Vicariate to pray for peace in the war-torn nation of Yemen.
Day by day, the humanitarian crisis continues to worsen. With the present fighting centered around the port of Hodeidah, the life-line access for most of country's aid is at risk of being cut off.
On Sunday 17 July, after the midday angelus, Pope Francis appealed to the international community to do "everything possible to bring all the parties involved to the negotiating table so that the already tragic humanitarian situation does not get worse.”
Every year on 26 June, the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia holds the "Day of Prayer in Memory of the Modern Martyrs of Yemen" where, in addition to praying for peace and freedom of the Church in Yemen, the faithful also remember those killed for their faith in that country, especially the three sisters killed in Hodeidah (27 July 1998) and the four sisters massacred in Aden (4 March 2016) all members of the Missionaries of Charity.
This year, following the appeal of the Bishop Paul, faithful throughout the Vicariate are asked to mark the Day of Prayer with special prayers for peace.
