Abu Dhabi.
The Vatican released the synodal documents which include a Preparatory Document along with a Vademecum (handbook) at a press conference on 7 September 2021, which provides the guiding principles to be followed on the path to the Synod on Synodality.
According to the Vatican, the Preparatory Document is intended to facilitate the first phase of listening and consultation of the People of God in the particular Churches. It highlights the necessity of journeying and reflecting together through which the Church will be able to learn which processes can help the church to live communion, to achieve participation, to open herself to the mission. The official handbook is offered as a guide to support each local Church’s efforts.
By creating an opportunity to listen and engage in dialogue at the local level, Pope Francis is inviting all the faithful to rediscover the synodal nature of the Church. The solemn opening of the Synod entitled, “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission” will take place in Rome on 9-10 October, and in the local Churches on 17 October (in our Vicariate on 15 October). It will conclude in the Vatican in 2023.
