November 26, 2024The Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia mourns the passing away of Cardinal Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot, MCCJ, Prefect of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue. Our heartfelt condolences. We pray for the repose of his soul. May the Lord welcome him in His kingdom
Cardinal Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot was an expert in Islam and the Arab world, devoted to promoting dialogue with other religions, particularly with Islam. He played a key role in promoting the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together,” signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019, and was and a member of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity. He was instrumental in the opening of the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi that is "a concrete example for people of different religions, cultures, traditions, and beliefs to return to the essential: love of neighbor" as he stated during its inauguration in February 2023.
Cardinal Ayuso visited our Vicariate several times for interreligious and Human Fraternity events, as well as Church events, among which was the opening of the Holy Door at St Joseph's Cathedral in Abu Dhabi for the extraordinary jubilee of St Arethas and his companions martyrs, in November 2023.
